Latest DCS Open Beta Update - Oh what fun
I hope everyone has had a better time installing this latest update than I have had. After over two hours downloading the update it then did not have enough space on my 225 Gigabyte SSD to install the update. I have had to move my DCS Openbeta version to my large HDD and re-download and install the update. After another two hours the update was finally in but all my graphic and control settings were stuffed up - so another hour re-setting graphics and the F18 controls - I have looked at the controls for all my other modules which I suspect have also been returned to the default settings.
Come tomorrow I think I will be looking for a new large SSD so that I can once again get DCS Openbeta working well.

I also heard that there are issues with multiplayer and a lot of servers have dialed back.

Re: Latest DCS Open Beta Update - Oh what fun
A small update on my DCS OpenBeta issue. When trying to fly with Squiz and StiC on the weekend I experienced multiple short to medium freezes which made the game unplayable.
I think this is mostly the result of having the game run from my HDD and not a SSD. I then decided to bite the bullet and deleted DCS OpenBeta from my HDD and completely reinstalled the game on the SSD. However, to ensure that there was sufficient room on the SSD I have only installed the Persian Gulf map and the plane modules that I am currently flying. Total space currently used is 118 Gb of my 225 Gb SSD.
Yesterday I ordered a 1 Tb SSD which should arrive in 4 to 5 days - once it arrives it will be a case of delete / reinstall the game and all its modules.
I have been tempted to add up what I have spent on DCS over the years - base game, modules, graphic card / computer upgrades etc - but I fear the results. Best to just think of all the fun time it has given me.

I prefer to look at it as a cost per minute ratio. Usually it looks a lot better when you view it that way.
DCS 2.5.6. Open Beta
I hear you. Every time I have to fork out time and money on new parts to keep the sim running, I have to internalize and rationalize the expensive of this hoppy. But then when I sit back and think of the absolutely incredible technology that goes into allowing me to simulate some of the experience of flying a high performance fighter, then it all comes into focus and I'm OK with the investment.
I only hope that I don't have to go through a total uninstall and reinstall since I just went through that. My internet provider was cranky last time after all those downloads so it won't make them happy to do that all again. I think that my 1 TB SSD will allow for the update, but that process will likely take 12 or more hours so this will be a weekend task when I get back in March.

Open Beta 2.5.6.
No luck.
I'm currently at 10 attempts to download the initial deltas but none so far will complete that process. The delta downloads simply freeze and won't restart short of cancelling and starting over.
I'll wait until tonight and try again over the Saturday/Sunday evening period.
Hopefully I'll see you next week.
Update: Success!! #11 was the magic number. Completed the update between Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.
