Suggest that we start a new string to help each other with rig configuration, compare hardware setups and offer advice on software/system settings for those of us not particularily computer savy.

When you hit the 'quote' button above a previous flight log entry, you should see the spreadsheet as it appears in the post. If not, you'll need to click on the Switch Editor Mode button to the far right of the post editor. It looks like this sorta: A/A

If you can see the spreadsheet thingy, then just click inside the cells and carefully remove the previous data and insert your own. Once done, just hit post.

The other thing to remove is the 'quote' tags at the beginning and end. They look like this: {quote} {/quote} (only using square brackets). Delete those out and your post won't look like a quote of someone elses.

Then when you're done editing the info, just hit Send!

Cue montage footage of Elvis studying html, lifting weights, applying Dapper Dan, editing posts, and raising fists in triumph, all set to the music from Karate Kid.

I'm not sure if this helps anyone, but at the bottom of each axis on the Saitek Throttle Quad is a button. Since my mixture is at the bottom of the axis when I'm on the ground it makes a handy parking brake.

Since I've moved all my throttle functions to the throttle quads I have, I've turned the slider throttle on my joystick into the break, just like how the brake on the Spit and Hurricane was a little lever on the stick itself.

Post  StiC Sun Apr 22, 2012 11:13 am

I'll post my system in the hopes of improving performance with some advice.

i7 870 CPU
8GB 1333Mhz ram
ATI 6750 GPU 1 GB
1080p display
Windows 7 Professional 64bit

I'm lucky in that this PC is dedicated to running games. There is no PC protection software running and I use Game Booster to shut down any unnecessary processes Windows has running.

I currently have all my graphics settings at the lowest value except for model detail (med), effects(high), and textures (high). AA, SAO?, and epilepsy are all turned off. I average about 40 fps with these settings.

I know it's pathetic, but except for the GPU (although that was a gift from my wife) it was a free system.

Any advice to help turn some features back on without a framerate hit would be most welcome.

Computer Systems and Software Settings Empty Controls stopped working

Post  Speed Thu May 03, 2012 7:27 pm

Suddenly my controls are not working properly. Tried updating the drivers, but their all good, pulled all connections plugged them back in, tried reloading my control settings, nothing. Some controls will function if you move/click on them repeatedly and my hat switch continues to work, but I seem to recall that Toxic had the same problem earlier in the week. Could this be a game glitch?

Anyone else having this problem?

Sounds like a problem with the anthropomorphic realism option. Try turning it off in a quick flight.

I've always had a problem keeping formation when mimicking the leader's instruments, and I think I may have figured out why.

I've always used the least tension, and I think resting my hand on the stick would introduce unwanted aerelon and perhaps drag. Also I would be constantly correcting for what I thought was torque, creating even more drag. Last night I tightened the tension and the difference was like night and day.

I can't wait to try some formation flying.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience using this. As I get older I find recalling details much more difficult.

Hmm, I've never recorded Teamspeak through the program. I've captured the audio as well as video using FRAPS, though. It just records everything visual and audio, though I think you can tell it not to record audio if you like.

I tried recording team speak last night (which was about as welcome as friendly fire) and it does work well if anyone wants a free and easy way to keep a real time log of mission events.

Computer Systems and Software Settings Empty Navigation tool for iPad

I was looking for an alternative to the in game map and protractor and found an app called Measures Lite. The app allows you to import a photo, in this case a map from Cliffs, and measure the angel* between two lines you create with 3 vertices. Afterwards you need only manipulate the points to calculate a new vector.

*nod to dnr

Note: While writing this my rudder pedals showed up.

Very neat. I'll take a look at this. It might work on my iPod, though it might be too small to use effectively.

Excited to hear how you like the pedals. Get 'em set up!
