It looks like fun! Our boys have had some practice in that sort of thing at a certain prison camp near St. Lo.
Looks like it's going to be 5pm on Saturday for me. That'll be a pretty early morning for |450|.
I'll put a Blenheim into the mix. If skins are on, look for the one in the invasion stripes

We need a plan! What are the capabilities/limitations of the blue radar? Looking at the line-up of 109s we need to figure some way to fake them out or it will be a bloodbath. How feasible is it to launch from Redhill and throw in some heading and altitude changes before attacking from an unexpected direction? Do we bomb from altitude or go in on the deck?

Based on the rule that at least 10 Blennies must be launched at one time, we may be limited in setting our own plan. Having said that, do we want to go ahead and register individually or wait till we get the rest of the guys lined up then then all register at the same time?

Re: ATAG Prison Break public sign up -now
Just go ahead and register individually. Not everyone will be able to make the event. Be sure you'll be able to make it if you sign up since the slots are limited (thought we could certainly use a lot more escorts).
I agree with Kookaburra. This will be a Blenny bloodbath. There's only one target to hit (or at the very most there are three but all bunched together) and I highly doubt we'll be doing high altitude bombing for this sort of thing.
Unless it is possible for us to knock out the RADAR ahead of our attack, this thing is designed for us to get jumped and produce a big battle.
I'm not really concerned about it. Mostly I'm there to have fun in a big formation and support ATAG who has been good to us with the server support. It's a good opportunity for us to engage with Blenheim pilots and maybe even convince a few to start flying on our map on Saturdays. It should also be a good opportunity for us to try out our close formation Blenheim defense to see if it really is more effective than the old bob and weave.

As Wolverine has indicated a lot of good could come out of our participation in this event. I'm going to brush up on my Warfront dive bombing techniques. Hope I can survive long enough to put them into practice.

YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST...you know that right?
Last event that I participated (defended) in was a blennie raid on the fuel depot and bridges near Bologne...109`s looking for blenhiems got jumped by spits...109`s looking for spitfire escorts had to be diverted...patrolling 109`s were to far out and had to be called back to the action. I dove down, much to late to stop the raid but splashed two blennies on the return trip...one of which Freya was piloting and Drock was gunning...lol. Went head on with another blennie and he shot my rads...splash 109!
The map was won by a lone blenhiem with just a single bomb left...he very sneakingly flew in and much to blue`s surprise, took out the last target. Well done Torian. We all had a blast.
So sign up asap DNR...and bring Hawk, Stic and Alpine with you if they are available.

OK,
I've submitted my name this AM with 12 escort slots available, 11 after they add my name. If we can get Stic, Alpine and Hawk in we can make up a finger four.
The 450 boys are signed up with Squiz, Kooka and Devil and including Wolverine confirmed to fly Blennies. Three spots remain for bombers.
We should all be on TS-2 NLT D -30 to coord escort flights and get the password.

Re: ATAG Prison Break public sign up -now
Now that we're getting some numbers for the escort, we do have the possibility of getting home. The key thing is to get the enemy fighters intercepted and tied up For as long as possible while the Blenheims come into range. This means less shooting down of 109s and 110s and more just harassing them. As we discovered on Saturday, a good long indecisive fight will keep the enemy away from bombers much more efficiently than trying to go for the kill.
a) If they're killed, they have more time to re-evaluate the situation and rejoin the attack on Blenheims
b) It's easier to keep the fight going longer if you're cautious and not risking all for the kill shot
c) 109s and 110s in trouble tend to call for help so the longer you keep one guy busy, the more likely you're actually keeping two busy
We're really going to need to use the RDF effectively too. Identify the groups and use matched response. It does no good to send our entire escort force out ahead to fight half the enemy. 3 or 4 109s can easily put down 10 to 15 Blenheims if they're decent shots. I fully expect the enemy groups to splinter off to try and get the wolves in amongst the pack so to speak, so it's going to be imperative to keep track of contacts and make sure none go unaccounted for during battles.
Should be fun!

Well, I hate to disappoint, but there will be no RDF available for this. And yes, it is designed to be a bit of a conflict, some white knuckle flying is ahead of us. Generally what we do is form EVERYONE up as good as possible, and head out according to the flight leads plotted course to target (Drock). And while Dice and Heavy play grab-ass with our escort fighters, we'll fight our way through the flak and remaining fighters to target. Many of us will need to be capable swimmers, I'm afraid. All in the name of fun!! Looking forward to it ~S~

Sorry everyone. This sounds like it will be a blast, and I want to do what I can to support ATAG after everything they've done for 401/450, but I can't commit the time to play that early in the evening.

It's absolutely okay, StiC. Don't worry about it for a second.

Gotcha.
Well, I guess we'll stick together in our Diamond of Doom.

Re: ATAG Prison Break public sign up -now
Just have fun with it tomorrow, guys. Enjoy the big formations and the carnage. If I can make it over French territory, I'll consider it a mission success. We've got some pretty organized opposition on the other side. I know in the Blenheims we have to stick to groups of 10 or more, but you may be able to form up a fighter sweep in smaller numbers to try and gain some altitude advantage.
I anticipate 109s at 20+ hopping up and down on the escorts before they hop up and down on us bombers.

ATAG Prison Break - AAR
A fine Sunday morning to all,
I'd like to pass along a very big thanks to DRock and Dice and all the guys who worked to put on yesterday's show. Was great fun and good to see so many pilots in the air. We had a great mix of veterans and newer pilots and I was amazed at the quantity of bombers we had. It was quite a sight.
Hawk and I took up position mid-way starboard of the bomber stream then climbed up an over as the point bombers hit the target area. Hawk engaged a 110 with hits, and I wheeled over to hit him mid-section when I came under fire and went down as the result of a PK. Second sortie Hawk and I spawned in side by side and headed back into the action when we were bounced just off shore of Wissant, got separated and I had to hit the silk with a seized engine from cannon fire to the engine cowling. Third time I linked up with Wolverine and the 450 boys over Ramsgate as they headed over for another run on the target. I stayed high and as we crossed the French coast I dove to intercept a wayward Hurricane by mistake and by the time I regained my bearings, the bomber stream had descended to attack altitude and I didn't see them again till I picked up Devil and Squiz on their way home.
Great fun. Hope we can do it again real soon.
Thanks again guys.
P.S. only time I suffered any frame rate issues was right over the target while engaging the 110.
