Pilot Roster Saturday 07 July 2018
Gents,
Can I please get a head count for this week. I'm attending another IMSA racing event at Mosport this weekend but I'm going to try hell or high water to make it back in time to lead this next mission. It's our turn to lead and since we had no one show up last week, I want to make sure that we have at least a few confirmed for Saturday. Here's what I know based on what you've told me.
Speed - yes
Wolverine - maybe (BBQ duty?)
StiC - maybe (later start possible?)
Alpine - not likely
Hawk - on leave
Squiz - on leave
Devil - yes
Kookaburra - yes
Cavey - on leave
I designed this mission specifically to include a two phase approach, so that if you can't make the 2300 Z start, then the second sortie should be starting a little bit after 2400 Z. If you can make that timing, then I'll design all future missions to accommodate those two start times. I spoke to SeaQuark and he offered to move the timing back to 2400 Z knowing that he'd loose a few of his guys from the UK, but I decided to leave it as is until we change the clocks back to daylight savings time. I know this timing is not great for everyone, but it works fine for others, so there's no happy medium.
As for this week's mission, it's in two parts:
Phase 1 is a strike against a NKA Armoured Maintenance Battalion Base and CAP to recon the Phase 2 target (duration about 1 hr)
Phase 2 is a strike against a double span bridge NW of Maykop (duration about 30 min)
Should be fun!!

I should still be available. By the way, I was online and in server last week but I felt very lonely. There were a couple of 39th guys but I was unable to contact them on SRS so I did a solo ground attack (HVAR) on the bridges south at EK9323. Partially damaged the C2 bridge.

Thanks Guys,
Hey Dev, I was flying in single mission last night just hacking around in a dog fight scenario. Had I known you were in the server I could have been your wingman!! Any time you guys want to fly, just stick a post in here and maybe we can link up.
P.S. remember that discussion we had about the damage models, and I posted my little story about shooting a MiG five times and chasing him around until I ran out of gas. Well last night I played that same training scenario and bagged the MiG in two bursts. First was the typical white and black smoke, but when I nailed it the second time a stream of thick black smoke poured out the rear end and the pilot soon ejected.
Moral of the story I guess is that it depends where you hit these things. The .50s will bring them down if you get a good shot.

It's looking like I might be able to be in on this one. I'll make sure I'm updated tonight and that I can get in the server okay. What's the current version of SRS that Korea is using?
I'll only be able to confirm for sure on Saturday unfortunately. As soon as I can give you a 100%, I will let you know. I'll try to give at least 6 hrs notice one way or the other.

Thanks Wolvie,
SRS is still on version 1.5.2.0 so it should be stable for Saturday night. Although on Tuesday night when I flew a rehearsal of this mission, my SRS dropped connection, but that might just be my lousy internet.
The DCS Open Beta update that Devil caught is fairly large at 2,983 MBs. Like everyone else, I wasn't expecting an Open Beta update so soon after DCS announcing the final 2.5.2. Release. I'm over an hour now in my download and only at 7%.

It looks like I will be on station tonight, so count me as active for the flight. I'll try to be on a little early to dust off the cobwebs on my Sabre.
EDIT: Just did a full flight check on Korea server and I'm good to go.

Open Beta version 2.5.2
Hi Alpine,
Great to hear from you. Hope you're well and enjoying a hot summer.
Great news about the new rig arriving. Should be enjoyable to get the added performance. We are currently running on DCS Version 2.5.2.19273.411 Open Beta so not sure if you are able to run that in the time remaining before you take delivery of your new machine. Seems that SeaQuark has opted to stay ahead of the update curve by running Open Beta in the Korea! 1952 server versus the Release version of DCS.
Try updating your Open Beta version and see if it works?
Either way, we're all looking forward to having you back in the flight.
Cheers
