TERROR IN ARRAS!
German Army News Wire - Recently, a cowardly terror attack was carried out by the English on the peace loving city of Arras. Reports indicate that a force of 12+ Englander bomber aircraft passed over the city, dropping their bombs on a civilian industrial target that was in no way connected to the German war effort. Fuel and oil fires blazed long into the night and repairs to the facilities are expected to take months due to the extensive damage which virtually leveled the entire storage facility. Such attacks by the enemy will have no effect on the eventual victory of our forces.
ST. LO PRISON CAMP BREAKOUT!
From the French News Service - A low level attack by what has been identified as a RAF "Blennhem" bomber aircraft briefly opened up the St. Lo air crew prison facility some weeks ago. Eye witnesses to the event claimed to observe several RAF airmen escaping through the broken fences of the camp and making their way into the nearby forests. Local French police services have assured the German Army Military Police that they will cooperate fully in the recapture of the prisoners.
GERMAN ADVANCED "RADAR" CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES
The Dieppe Gazette - In spite of enemy actions, construction on the West Dieppe "RADAR" station continues this month. RAF warplanes managed to cause moderate damage to the construction vehicles and supplies massed at the site last week, but failed to significantly interrupt the work of the intrepid German engineers. The site is projected to begin active service in one month at which time it will provide detailed information to the Luftwaffe command on the actions of enemy aircraft approaching German occupied France. The station, which appears to be composed of several large aerial antennae positioned to receive from the direction of the Channel, works by highly secret means to catch signals given off by enemy aircraft and return their position to trained officers who then relay the information to the pilots in the air. Such technological marvels are sure to bring about the ultimate victory.
STRANGE SIGHTING OFF THE COAST OF NORMANDY
La Valognes Dispatch - Late this afternoon several eyewitnesses reported seeing a pair of two engined aircraft circling low over the Normandy coastline before descending and making rough landings on the grass near the beach, remaining there for several minutes and then taking off again. It is unclear what the purpose of such activities was and German military police have been put on high alert. One over-stimulated French citizen from the coastal village of Ste Mere Eglise was overheard yelling "Vive la France libre!" and claiming that he had assisted several battered RAF aircrew to the coastline for rescue. He has been taken in for questioning.
PROPERTY FOR IMMEDIATE SALE
Ste Mere Eglise - A quaint cottage, recently vacated, for immediate sale to highest bidder. All furnishings provided.
DOWNED AIRCRAFT INCREASE
Calais - Citizens all over the Calais and St. Omer regions have reported finding the burning wreckage of many aircraft, including several German machines. Losses appear to be high for both sides in this area of German occupied France and several Luftwaffe squadrons have had to petition for replacement machines and crew. Reinforcements are becoming harder to come by for the Luftwaffe in this region as many of the experienced pilots have been transferred to the East and the movements being taken there against the Russians.

Re: News from the Front - Campaign Play Reports
The Luftwaffe has published some encouraging figures about air loss rates, demonstrating of course the innate superiority of the Deutschland!
Tour 1 Losses
LW:
JGs 2 & 26 (player driven 109s): 11x planes lost, 6x pilots KIA/MIA
Supporting Squadrons (AI 109s): 20x planes lost, 10 pilots MIA/KIA (approximation)
ZG 4 (player 110s): 4x planes lost, 6x Aircrew KIA/MIA
Supporting Zestroyers: 2x planes lost, 4x aircrew KIA/MIA
Totals
37 Aircraft
26 Pilots and Aircrew
RAF
Spitfires: 13x planes destroyed, 13x pilots KIA/MIA - ALL PLAYER DRIVEN
Blenheims: 16x planes destroyed, 49 air crew KIA/MIA (includes dead gunners)
Wellingtons: 17x planes destroyed, 87 air crew KIA/MIA (includes dead gunners)
Sunderlands: 2x planes destroyed, 6x air crew KIA/MIA
Totals
48 Aircraft
155 Pilots and Aircrew
Synopsis
Our strategy of going defensive and allowing the British to bleed is paying off handsomely; they are losing men at a rate of nearly 7:1, and if this is indicative of efforts across the front, will surely result in ultimate victory for the Fatherland! In addition, many of our "lost" aircraft can be salvaged or used for parts, while every RAF plane we destroy is a complete loss for the enemy.

Very useful to see this info -thanks Ruse and your source. As long as the fuehrer doesn't do something crazy -like invade Russia-we should be invading England this summer if these numbers continue like this.

Vengeance at Arras!
Another heavy bomber raid was directed at Arras, no doubt intent on killing medical and rescue personnel at the site of their last raid, but the Luftwaffe stood ready to protect the citizens of the city, and repulsed the terror raid with heavy casualties. Indeed, the carnage inflicted prevented the enemy from successfully dropping any bombs on the site, with observers reporting the bombers jettisoning their bombs early and turning to limp to England. The Luftwaffe valiantly pressed the attack, with the end result being ten of the twelve enemy bombers being brought down over France and the Channel. In addition, three of the escorting fighters were destroyed while futilely trying to defend their fleeing charges.
The enemy launched an abortive feint towards western France, but the flyers of JG 2 quickly put down the lead Blenheim and the rest of the raid broke off over the channel. JG 2 completed its engagement by destroying three Spitfires patrolling near Dieppe, and went on record saying the pilots intercepted must be replacements as they under-performed compared to most frontline squadrons.
Luftwaffe losses were minimal, with only one 110 from ZG 4 and one 109 from JG 26 being lost. The 110 crew safely bailed out and are recovering in good spirits.

JG 2 pilots log
It is actually quite immersive sitting on the airfield waiting for the call
Here is my ( Black 2's ) flight log
We were sitting on the airfield waiting seems that we're always waiting as we are on the far western edge of France most of the attacks have been comming in from the east near dover
Then we got the call had a radio operator run over to my 109 waving a note in his hand
We were to scramble to intercept a single suspected bomber north of theiville
Tuned into the radio and gave the order to my wingman (otyg) to start engines
My mechanic told me they installed new brakes in my 109 so taxying will be a bit more of a challenge and a challenge it was (got new rudder pedals hehe)
We rolled over to the western runway and were taking off in an easterly direction
While waiting for my wingman to form up I applied full brakes and ran the engine up to full throttle to check pressures and to listen for any noises and misfires
Set oil and water rads for takeoff Started takeoff roll and had to apply quite a bit of right rudder as the plane was drifting a bit to the left left the ground and cranked up the landing gear turned slight left and started a gentle climb north whilst staying in constant with my wing man and radar operators
once at 5000m we started scanning for the contact sun to our backs when all of a sudden whilst trying to clean a greasy finger smudge that my mechanic must have left on my front right window i saw a small glint of light and there it was a small black dot about 4 km away and about 3000m below us what luck is this I thought
I said over the radio contact 2 o'clock low no escorts
Started a shallow dive and got within range to identify a blennie
He must have been given orders to abort as he made a gentile left bank and started heading for England
Started a steeper dive wit my trusty but slightly nervous wingman in toe and about 400 m back
Screaming in at over 650kph I came in and aimed for the right engine totally ignoring the tracer rounds flying past my head let of a short burst and scored heavy hits on the engine it started smoking straight away pulled out and started climbing to watch my wingman fire more rounds into the bomber . At this point I gave the order to form up that the bomber has had it he went in a short time later didnt see any parachutes
We climbed southeast and were given new orders to follow fighter contacts a around dieppe
Was a bit challenging as we now had the sun in our eyes
Once we got closer to the coast we spotted three contacts at the same altitude as us but luckily for us they were 109,s
We flew a little inland an below us saw three contacts swirling around a 109 was in trouble
So we raced in and made quick work of the two attacking spitfire
Then out of nowhere there was another spitfire flying low trying to run for home
I suspect these raf pilots were new recruits (AI) as they were a bit slow to do any defensive manouvers I came in behind the spit and fired a short burst but they all went low re adjusted and fired again scored only a few hits but the raf pilot broke off so I climbed to cover my wing man who was now firing at the spitfire he reported seeing fluids coming from the airframe so we climbed up
At this stage I was short of fuel ( the boss said that's enough flying )
Rolled my airframe and lined up with dieppe landing in a northerly direction as touched down slowed down and applied brakes AHHH WHAT SORCERY is this as the nose of my plane dug into the dirt aaaahhaaaa NEW BRAKES

Reading and hearing about Saturday's mission, it sounds like the skies over France are really heating up. I think we'll all have to up our game over the course of this campaign.
I've still got some tricks up my sleeve. Watch out, Fritz.

ARRAS HARRASSED EN MASSE!
Arras Daily Post - Once again, Arras has been the target of British bombers seeking to terrorize the newly liberated populations of Northern France. However, this time the Luftwaffe was ready for the intruders. Of a large flight of twin-engined bombers, only a couple of them managed to limp back to England, undoubtedly carrying wounded and demoralized crews. Enemy escort fighters were unable to provide superiority in the air and also suffered heavy blows. Fortress Europe grows stronger by the day and further incursions into targets beyond the most coastal regions would seem to be very dangerous for the British airmen indeed.
CALAIS FUEL AND OIL REFINERY SUFFERS HEAVY DAMAGE
German Army New Wire - Fuel and oil facilities south of Calais were heavily damaged by a large flight of bombers today. The fires could be seen as far as Ostend to the east and as far south as Boulogne and St. Omer. Fire crews are desperately working to put out the flames while army officials are attempting to calculate the exact damage done to the war effort. Fuel and oil for many of the wermacht panzer divisions had begun to flow from the facility and now reserves from Germany must be exported.
DANCING IN THE SKIES
Le Calais Gazette - Yesterday, while a raid against a fuel refinery south of the city was taking place, many onlookers in the city witnessed an amazing display of patterns and turns high in the sky as the escort fighters and interceptors dueled. Many young necks are crooked today as the battle went on for quite some time and remained high enough to deliver a fabulous network of aircraft cloud trails. There appeared to be few casualties from the battle, but witnesses say that the fighting was fierce and determined.
LUFTWAFFE AIRCRAFT REPAIR YARD STRUCK IN EARLY MORNING RAID
La Valognes Dispatch - Only an hour after dawn this morning, a British attack of nearly 30 aircraft came across the English Channel and bombed a Luftwaffe aircraft repair facility to the south of Valognes. Damage reports are vague but some witnesses who managed to get close enough to the facility have described significant clean-up and reconstruction taking place. Transport trucks bearing damage airframes from other regions of Northern France have been entering the area, however, so the raid has not yet put the facility out of action and it continues to repair engines and aircraft for the Luftwaffe, albeit at a reduced capacity.
Re: News from the Front - Campaign Play Reports
Luftwaffe estimates document, many Frenchmen died for this information...
LW losses:
JG 2 & 26: 11 109s, 6 pilots lost. A disturbing 25% of all losses were to pilot error...request additional pre unit training on taxi and take off procedures.
ZG 4: 4 110s, 4 air crew lost
Supporting squadrons: 11 109s, 1 110, 7 pilots and aircrew lost.
Totals: 27 aircraft, 16 personnel
RAF Losses:
Front Line Squadrons: 13 spits, 12 pilots lost.
Reserve Fighters: 6 spits, 6 pilots
Blenheims: 2 bombers, 3 aircrew
Heavy Bombers: 29 Bombers, 145 aircrew
Sunderlands: 1 aircraft, 2 aircrew
Totals:
51 aircraft, 168 personnel
Leaked copies of the Times indicates several RAF squadron commanders are being reviewed by boards of enquiry after repeated instances of bomber flights being abandoned by their escorts. Nearly 3/4 of all the heavy bombers launched have been lost, with the worst losses involving entire squadrons being shot down when their escorts abandoned them for the glory of a dogfight or ran for home and left the bomber crews to their fate. Either way, the court martial of many fighter squadron commanders for dereliction of duty seems imminent...

Re: News from the Front - Campaign Play Reports
News from Whitehall indicates that Fighter Command has been cleared of charges reflecting dereliction of duty. Damage estimates of targets in France indicate that many if not all bombers escorted to target have been able to accurately hit their objectives. Destruction of enemy infrastructure in Northern France is proceeding ahead of schedule and is likely to result in favourable conditions for invasion much sooner than originally planned.
Returning bomber losses are regretable, but Fighter Command has assured Bomber Command and the Government that every effort is going into protecting the bomber group. The number of enemy interceptors being encountered has been reported as very high and the escort fighters are engaging when necessary in order to prevent these aircraft from attacking the bomber group. Fighter Command has yet again issued a request to RAF Command for more pilots and aircraft with which to adequately support the bombers en route and on egress.

Re: News from the Front - Campaign Play Reports
Several MPs have lambasted the sitting coalition leadership, especially that of the Conservatives, asking for the re-instatement of Dowding and Parks as air marshals. They have been quick to point out that under the new RAF leadership supported by the coalition government, efforts to bomb occupied France have resulted in bomber casualty rates that have been called "simply obscene". The MPs argue that a drastic reworking of RAF Strategy is necessary, and warn of losses like "another Great War, only in the air" will continue until a shuffling of high command.
The debate, long a thorn in the side of the sitting government, had new fuel added to the fire after an entire raid of Blenheims was lost. This is the fourth consecutive operational period where bombers attacking eastern France have suffered over 75% losses. Rumors of RAF fighters abandoning their charges to engage in inconclusive mid channel dogfights have once again resurfaced, despite last months reassurances form Whitehall. In the words of one bomber squadron member who has asked to remain anonymous "Morale is in the pits here. Everyone knows that going up is a form of suicide now. It's already a tough enough job with escorts, but the bryl creem boys are willing to leave you alone at the drop of a hat, and for what? So that one of them can maybe add a cross to his spitfire while you and your mates die? At the rate we're going, it make more sense just to have the pilot crash the plane into the target...at least only one man would have to die..." Rumors of increasing desertion rates and even refusal to fly within bomber command have been categorically denied by official sources.

Re: News from the Front - Campaign Play Reports
Lord Haw Haw's in fine form it seems.
Wikipedia wrote:Among many techniques used, the Nazi broadcasts prominently reported on the shooting down of Allied aircraft and the sinking of Allied ships, presenting discouraging reports of high losses and casualties among Allied forces. Although the broadcasts were widely known to be Nazi propaganda, they frequently offered the only details available from behind enemy lines concerning the fate of friends and relatives who did not return from bombing raids over Germany. As a result, Allied troops and civilians frequently listened to Lord Haw-Haw's broadcasts[citation needed] in spite of the sometimes infuriating content and frequent inaccuracies and exaggerations, in the hopes of learning clues about the fate of Allied troops and air crews. Mass Observation interviews warned the Ministry of Information of this and as a result more attention was given to the official reports of British military casualties.
Re: News from the Front - Campaign Play Reports
Oooh...you just convinced me to add a pilot report to our broadcasts...I'll need some names from you guys of course when we down 401 pilots.
Of course, unlike Haw Haw, we actually do have a record of four consecutive bomber raids over eastern France being nearly annihilated or completely destroyed.

Re: News from the Front - Campaign Play Reports
Yet another entire bomber raid has been lost over France, once again prompting a renewed debate over the combined RAF strategy. The raid went out yesterday for a target in Eastern France, with renewed promises of fighter escorts and a new attention to preserving the bomber force. Despite new tactics used by the British flyers, every single bomber was destroyed. In addition, four of the escorting fighters were lost to Luftwaffe action. This utter destruction was capped by the complete failure of the bombers to damage any targets of note.

Re: News from the Front - Campaign Play Reports
British citizens, you may not be aware of the reasons behind your RAF's decision to "lower its operational tempo in the French theater of operations." Perhaps you believe what your high command has told the Times, that this is a strategy decided upon to "allow the emphasis on more immediately vital theaters while still forcing the Germans to commit defensive forces without expending our strength there."
This is, of course, a lie. The truth your government is hiding from you is that the RAF has been badly battered and this pause has been brought about by the need to rest and refit its squadrons. Bomber forces have taken, at a minimum, 50% losses in every raid. The fighter force has been steadily attritted through pointless dogfighting, where they have lost an a very unfavorable exchange rate for months. Indeed, we have it on good authority that your high command's decision to delay further attacks was the direct result of a recent series of raid in which fighter losses approached 75% and bomber losses were approximately 66%. I realize you may not believe me, but here are the voices of some of your own airmen:
(Wolverine, I need the names of the captured) pilot officer, from your fighter command. "The squadron was in really bad shape as we began these last attacks. We'd been fighting for months on the line, and we were slowly slipping under strength - the replacements always seemed to be slotted for the home defense unit, what the hell do they have to replace? - and then they decided to go east again. We had, maybe, eight spitfires left in the squadron if you don't count the crank spares. And they decided to do that. I mean, we'd been to St Omer three times in four weeks, Jerry knew we'd be coming. they were ready. And its always brutal that far in. But we had to go anyhow...and it was a massacre...we had already lost half the bombers and three fighters by the time I bailed, and Jerries showed me several more downed spits before I made this statement...I can't believe we have anything left in the squadron after that..."
Sergeant (need a 105th name), gunner for a Blenheim: "Straight mad, that's what it was. I mean, 105th has had it good, light duty mostly, but everyone KNOWS that the deep raids are gonna take a schlacking. And then they sent us in, right over the deck, where every Tom, dick, and harry on the ground could see us plain as day, and the flak kept pounding away. No surprise the nazis found us, and no surprise that with no altitude we were fighter bait. Glad I made it out. I know that leftenant (name) didn't. Guess we'll be coming again, but the people should know that we're just beign fed in to the meat grinder..."
We would like to remind you that these statements were made of their own free will, and not under duress.

British citizens, we know that your government has been touting the success of its renewed bomber offensive against the French people. But do you truly know the costs of bombing civilians in their homes? The latest raid cost 70% of the bomber force sent, and nearly 80% of their escorts. The attempts to use raw recruits in a massive air superiority battle, the one your government crowed about, resulted in entire squadrons of entry level pilots being devastated as their more experienced brethren by and large abandoned them once faced with opposition - the same way they have routinely allowed the bomber flights to be butchered.
One fighter pilot we captured, when asked why he and his mates were so quick to abandon their charges, replied "Well, the CO always said that bombermen don't have mothers." Think on that, women of England, as your sons are sent on futile and nigh on suicidal missions. Not only are they being asked to do the impossible, but the men supposed to be protecting them don't even consider them human...
We in the Reich recognize your loss, and hope to provide a measure of closure for those of you who are mothers, more than your own side will it seems:
ROLL CALL FOLLOWS FOR RECOVERED BOMBER AND FIGHTER PAX

Re: News from the Front - Campaign Play Reports
It is with heavy hearts that we at the Ministry of Public Enlightenment must report that yesterday an emergency convoy, filled with medical and aid supplies earmarked for the French civilians who have been suffering in RAF raids, was attacked by forces of the British Isles. Being clearly marked with the Red Cross and officially designated as a humanitarian effort, the Kriegsmarine only attached one patrol boat and the Luftwaffe was not initially appraised of their day time movement. However, the British desire to cause human suffering quickly won out over the law of war, and the convoy was attacked by a flight of low level bombers. Several ships were struck by bombs as the initial efforts to display peaceful intent prevented effective defenses. Enraged at this blatant disrespect for common decency, the brave men of the Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe systematically eliminated the raiders, with none of the aircraft returning home. Indeed, the need to fully exterminate the perpetrators of this atrocity lead one LW flight to carry the war all the way to the shores of England, where unfortunately two aircraft were lost. None the less, theirs was a noble sacrifice, eliminating the basest and most immoral RAF elements that would conduct such an attack.
Also, a police headquarters was hit in Caen as the British continue to try to destabilize civil services in France. This was offset by the fact that one RAF pilot delivered a only lightly damaged spitfire to the airfields at Le Havre, an intelligence coup of great value. A second, somewhat less intact, spitfire landed on a nearby beach and is being used for parts to bring the gift to working order so that the LW may directly ascertain the capabilities of the RAF's latest aircraft.

Re: News from the Front - Campaign Play Reports
British Citizens,
We have all heard Whitehall's boast that they have finally figured out a way to "bring our bombers home." What they have not told you is that they have simply switched those they send to a certain death. Realizing that the British people, exposed to the truth, were demanding lower bomber losses and an end to suicidal attacks they came up with a lcever strategy - send the fighters and a few low altitude bombers to die in their stead. In this week's raids alone, the average squadron suffered 33% total attrition. That is not 1 in 3 planes that were sortied lost, but literally 1/3rd of an entire squadron - including those planes still safely in England. Actual sortie losses were closer to 2/3rds for the worst raids. During the last month, the 401st squadorn in particular was wiped out completely..not one plane of their initial 18 was left operational, and nearly half their pilots were killed or captured.
In addition, your bomber command has begun the use of bait bombers, a handful of low altitude Blenheims that have a less than one in four chance of making it home, to secure the safety of the higher bombers. This is a mandated roll, often used for non-English squadrons like the 105th. It would seem that the blood of those allies who came to England's aid is cheaper to spend than that of those who vote in elections, but that is no surprise now is it?
In short, people of Britain, Whitehall is still fine with suffering catastrophic losses. they have signaled a willingness to send different men to die in their masses if it can help blovk the latest political execution. For example, in this week alone, the following British airmen were killed or captured:
ROLL CALL...
(6x 401 spits, 1x other human spitfire, 5x AI spitfires, 3x 105th Blenheims)

Re: News from the Front - Campaign Play Reports
The ministry of enlightenment must regrettably report progress on new vaccines was interrupted yesterday as British bombers struck a medical research center near Caen. The first British attempt was brutally repulsed, with every single bomber committed to the attack being destroyed before they could release their weapons. It would seem that after a short period of increased responsiveness, RAF fighter command has once again prioritized painting a handful of crosses on their spitfires over the protection of their charges. Statements from captured bomber crewmen indicate that it may be possible that the escorts intended for the first raid missed their link up to begin with, in what the bombermen are calling a "typical display of fighter command competence." The actual words they used were not suitable for print. Even so, at least two spitfires were lost and others damaged while seeking glory away from the bombers.
The second raid directed over came with heavier bombers and more of them, proving the RAF's dedication to the destruction of science and progress where-so-ever it may be found. The heroic members of the Luftwaffe, still recovering from the first attack, scrambled to meet them as a flight of 110s was diverted from its patrol over eastern France to reinforce JG2. Despite climbing in to the teeth of the attack, over half the attacking bombers were destroyed, as were three spitfires. Luftwaffe losses were minimal.
As a public health precaution, many french citizens near the target site have been quarantined in official holding facilities due to exposure to live vaccines after the raid.
British citizens, while we regret that many of the RAF aircrew lost this week were over the channel and unrecoverable, those that we could identify were as follows:
ROLL CALL:
10x AI Blenheims
9x AI Wellingtons
4x 401st Spitfire (Wolverine - safe, Kookaburra - rescued by ASR, Devil - quite dead, 1 more - drowned)
2x 105th Blenheims (Target - drowned, Squiz - drowned)
1x Other Spitfire (AKA Blasto - drowned)
