Normandy 1944 Map and World War II Assets Pack, Now Available for Download
Just in from DCS:
After a great deal of research, technology development, and design, the wait is finally over; take to the skies over Normandy France! All pre-purchase customers can now download the Early Access, DCS: Normandy 1944 Map and the DCS: World War II Assets Pack.
To install the new map, please update your DCS World 2 Open Alpha, or download from DCS site.
This will install DCS World Open Alpha 2.1, and it will allow you to have both the DCS: NEVADA Test and Training Range Map and/or the DCS: Normandy 1944 Map.
The DCS: World War II Assets Pack will work with both DCS World 2.1 and DCS World 1.5.
If you have not pre-purchased, you can purchase now from:

DCS Update 2.1
Don't forget to update to version 2.1 for tonight. It's big so it will take some time.
It's 2:22 AM here now and I've been downloading since around 10:00 PM last night. Still only at 40%. Maybe done in time for the start of the F1 Monaco qualifying five hours from now.

Yeah it took me 7 hours to get everything down. One of the slowest updates I've had to deal with.

Still going
OK gents,
It's now 7:45 local time and my download is at 96%. Total time will come in around 10.5 hours. My internet is wireless so your times should be about two thirds/one half to mine.
If you haven't started yet, you still have a couple of hours??

Don't forget, after you update to 2.1 you still need to download the map and assets pack.
If, for some reason you can't see Normandy in the module manager under DLC > Terrains in 2.1, you can install it manually with the Windows Command Prompt.
From your DCS 2.1\bin folder, run the following.
dcs_updater.exe install NORMANDY_terrain
dcs_updater.exe install WWII-ARMOUR
I installed them separately, but you may be able to run them at the same time.

That's bad news
Thanks StiC,
That's bad for me as I thought the Normandy Map and Assets Pack was included in the v 2.1 download. If I have to start v 2.1 all over again and then download the map and asset pack separately, I might not make it.
Then again, if we fly the last Nevada mission tonight, I can download Normandy/Assets on Saturday night after we're finished flying.

DCS v2.1 Upgrade
Well boys, so far DCS get a failing grade with this update. I've not dealt with anything this screwed up since the early days of TF.
I give up, I need to cut grass while the sun is still up.

Problem solved
My Norton antivirus scan had picked up something irregular about the dcs.updater.exe app and advised that I remove it. Thinking is was something attached to the incoming download I enabled Norton and carried on. So version 2.1 completed it's download but from that point I could not access the Normandy/Assets download.
So after a little research, I figured out that I really did need that updater app that Norton dumped, and was able to find an updated version and downloaded into my bin file.
So it's 5 PM local, grass is cut and I'm starting my download, which I doubt will be anywhere near finished by 8 PM, so I'll likely cancel and start it up again later.
Computers, love'm, hate'm.

You should ditch Norton all together. Running Security Essentials or Windows Defender for newer versions of Windows (Windows 10) is more than enough anti-virus if you keep it up to date. Have something like Malwarebytes and run that occassionally as well. Norton thinks everything is a risk and has made a mess of things for me in the past.
As long as you're smart and don't fall for the email scams that pretend to be your paypal account or whathaveyou and you don't go to bad places on the web, it'll make your life a lot easier.

Normandy 1944 Map
Successful download overnight and easy activation, so DCS is back in my good books (like Wolvie suggests, Norton was the real culprit here).
OK, first impression, HOLY SMOKE! Is that entire map playable? It's huge. Far bigger than I had ever expected based on some earlier images I looked at. We will have no problem entertaining and challenging ourselves for the next five years I suspect.
National Anthems are on for the Monaco GP so time to scoot, but for now, really looking forward to getting into this.
Any plans for next Saturday? How about a simple CAP from England to check out the French countryside.
Home base? Historically 401 operated out of Tangmere so we need to find a good pub nearby!! See you next week.
Race is over and I've now looked at the map a second time and it's as big as first thought. I was looking at it from the other version versus that which we have available under mission editor. Still good!
