IFS AWARDED TO P/O DNR
Attention all No.401 Pilots and Staff:
It is with great pleasure that we present Pilot Officer DNR, or "The Dean" as other pilots have taken to calling him, with the Illustrious Flying Shield for his actions on April 25th. This pilot showed great skill in attacking a flight of enemy bombers heading for England. This pilot showed great courage in remaining airbourne and linking up for a second sortie instead of returning to his airfield with his flight. This pilot showed great determination and iron nerve in remaining with his landed aircraft during multiple straff attempts. This pilot showed great dedication to duty by using all means at his disposal to destroy two enemy 109s while his aircraft lay broken on the grass.
For these reasons, and through interviews with aircrew and staff at RAF Hawkinge aerodrome, "The Dean" is hereby awarded the IFS for his services to H.R.H, Great Britain and the Commonwealth.
The full report of his actions on this day can be found in the Squadron flight log here.

Wow!! I'm humbled and honoured
Thanks Skipper,
I really appreciate your confidence and the time taken to write up that citation to 11 Group Headquarters. That was one memorable scrap and I look forward to many more with my 401 Sqn mates. Speaking of which, I dedicate this to all the pilots, ground crew and support staff in 401 Sqn who deserve no less recognition.
Now! Pints at the Dog and Bull fellas, and maybe some of those pickled things we eat last week.
