Crash In Bayeux Empty Crash In Bayeux

Post  kookaburra Mon Jun 26, 2017 1:20 am

Hi Guys

My wife and I have just returned to Australia from a month in Europe.

Whllst in France we took a river cruise from Paris to the Channel Coast during which we visited WW1 and WW2 sites.  One of the the WW2 sites we visited was the Canadian memorial and new museum (opened last year) for Juno Beach, which is, of course, the D Day landing site for the Canadian forces.

While at the museum I purchased a book  titled "Crash In Bayeux" which tells the story of 401 Squadron pilot Sergeant William Ferguson, killed at Bayeau on January 15 1943. The book contains quite a lot photos and details regarding 401 Squadron and is a worthwhile read for students of the squadron.

Now to knock off the rust from my flying so I don't embarrass myself.

Cheers

Kooka

Welcome home, Kooka.

That looks like a fascinating book. I'll have to see if I can get a copy.

Thank you for stopping by F.Ox!

On behalf of everyone here, a sincere thank you for authoring this book and helping to preserve the memory of those who served with No.401 RCAF as well as all other servicemen and women and also those who paid the price for honouring and aiding downed airmen in France. They will never be forgotten.

I'm sure that word of your book will travel through our various groups and you should pick up a few sales!

All the best to you and Bayeux from Canada and Australia!

Thank you for welcoming me. The book is the result of a five-year inquiry which also led me to travel to Canada to pay a visit to relatives of several pilots of No. 401 Squadron -- including P/O William Kennedy Ferguson's sister.

Initially, one of the reasons that led me to research this story was the pilot's age: 22 years old -- exactly my age at the time.

Here are other links dedicated to this pilot:
