So far I've not had great success with this patch. I'll continue to try and play, but it's super frustrating.

On several occasions I'm getting ready to attack some contacts and just as I roll over to attack the game locks up and launcher.exe crashes. This is on my first flight of the sessions too, so I've only been playing ten minutes or so.

It got so bad that I even downloaded and installed Rise of Flight (World War I flying simulator - It's like Cliffs of Dover but with bi-planes and everything works). I'm having fun trying that out.

So how has everyone else been experiencing things? Do we collectively uninstall the game and re-install it to go back to the version before this patch? Do we keep on keeping on? What say you?

The patch has been kind to me. No crashes, increased framerate, but for some reason I'm not as immersed in the sim. It could be the pop up clouds or the blurry visuals but I was happier before the alpha.

I say roll everything back and let the developers sift through the enormous amounts of data they collected.

As for 1946, I'm in if there are enough people interested. At $10 though it will be twice what I paid for Cliffs. I'm counting on you guys to make it worth while.

Okay, I just had a very long flight with lots of action on the ATAG server and with the settings I was trying I had no stutter, no crash, and pretty good frame rate! So I'll share: Here are the video settings I was using that delivered very playable performance. Just click the thumbnail to see the image full size.

Of note, I switched from Pseudo to Full Screen. I also turned off all the in game anti-aliasing and am just relying on nVidia's FXAA through the driver for all that.

Poor preformance with dust effects, and with more then three aircraft on the screen. Poor preformance over london. Max settings 1920x1080 no AA, 680GTX.

Very strange. Is 1920 x 1080 your monitor's native res? Same res you run windows?

Make sure to clear the cache. If that doesn't do anything, try reinstalling the game completely to make sure everything is stock and then apply the patch again, all before you boot it for the first time.

Also, do you have settings applied to the program via the nVidia control panel? I've got some:

I was assuming this is the way it was for everyone with high-end rigs, ive seen other people whine about the preformance too especially the smoke effects.

Poor performance when staring at the dust effects (on take-off or landing primarily) is pretty much everyone yes. It's been an issue since day one and I think in many ways is still an issue with stock 1946. They just can't get that bit right it seems. Solution for me: don't stare at planes taking off or landing :P

Smoke trails from aircraft, gun smoke when firing, etc. don't seem to give me any issues. It's just the take off and landing dust.

As for settings, even though you've got a 680, I'd still run things on medium or lower except for the model detail and maybe textures (set to original). See post #3 in this thread for a screenshot of my settings (or in my personal gallery). With those settings I'm having very few performance related issues.

I will note that for some reason on ATAG there was a framerate killer near Manston AF when twin engine player flown aircraft were around. I haven't been able to replicate it since, so not fully sure what the cause was. Other than that, things are great performance wise. Now they just need to start getting things like the clouds reflective water, and metal reflection back in the game.

Another thing: if you had previously applied an FXAA or SMAA injector solution for AA into your CloD folder, I'd delete all that stuff.

Final fix attempt should be to fully uninstall the game, delete the 1C Softclub folder in my documents, and then reinstall from scratch. CloD doesn't seem to like saving settings properly and that might have something to do with the varied results. Majority seems to find the fix working though.

Excellent results so far in offline. Hopefully it carries over to online. I will be on tonight to find out.
